We are 'supposed' to take the key to the key safe down to the security desk ;-)

We don't have to clear all our work away only certain things. When I get back from a week off work I see that those certain things have been piled up in one of my trays. Now who is responsible for not filing those away? Not me, I wasn't there ;-)

When a clear desk policy was introduced in the Highways Agency (to give the cleaners something to wipe) back in the late nineties, a key safes was put up on the wall and everyone was responsible, on pain of death, for ensuring their work papers in trays were deposited in newly-delivered security cabinets when they left the office and the security cabinets locked and keys placed in the key safe. The key safe was locked by an EO when they left for the evening. Of course, in case that EO didn't come in the next day for reasons of business continuity the key safe key was hidden in the nearest desktidy to the key safe. Well, it (all except the last stage which nobody mentioned) ticked boxes and pleased senior management.
