The reason we ended up going along this route is because it was raining and plan A had been a walk out from the B&B but TAG didn't have a raincoat it had been left on a train a few weeks previously.

So instead we went to Wensleydale cheese factory and that drove a bit further which is when we spotted the road for Bolton Castle.

Great photos and bittersweet memories if you will allow me to indulge....

I was going away for a weekend in North Lancashire with seven or eight friends and I was asked to arrange a hill walk on the way down for four of us who had the friday off work. As we had to pick someone up in Durham and use the Wensleydale road, my choice was Great Whernside (which is the mountain in cloud behind your shot of Ribblehead viaduct). The weather was awful but slowly improving with the forecast and we stopped for a late breakfast at a coffee shop in Hawes hoping for better weather to materialise. I hurriedly had to think of a reserve option as this was the only chance in the year that some could do a serious walk & wanted the experience of the day to move on from being sulky about the weather in Hawes. I said that I would check the background cloud out when we got to Ribblehead viaduct. On passing the road junction from right to left in your photo, we couldn't even see the viaduct far less the hill behind. What better way to end the day than the Ingleton waterfalls walk ... apart from the coffee shop, maybe the only place in the area that we could enjoy the water !

Storms and rain clear the air and restore beauty. The after effects never cease to amaze me :-)
