Hopefully you will get the chance to visit that area soon. I really enjoyed myself and the scenery is just wonderful.

Next holiday for me is York :-)

I love these photos & someone is telling me something .....

....that this is the second time on blogger that I have commented on these scenes & I promised to go and see them last time. I still haven't managed to visit this location even though it is probably 90 minutes away from my house.
Apart from holidays, one of the issues I have at the moment is that destinations on saturdays or weekends happen for other reasons and even though it is within the parameter of my choice to do that, specific "wanted" destinations such as this are very often outside my control of available time :-(

Where I was coming from in relation to the ruined castles is that seeing them in decline actually shows you what various events in history have done.

Not all of this castle is a ruin and the rooms that aren't in ruins have been furnished as as they would have been in a particular era in time. In this case showing the Sropes bedrooms and the kitchens and cellars to name a few.

To me that is a living history, it shows me so much.

There are some perfect examples of buildings not in decline too. Dover Castle, Warwick Castle, Tower of London, Edinburgh Castle, Caernarfon castle and many more.

In addition to that restoring a castle such as Bolton back to its former glory would not be viable economically.

I can't see how restoring them could lead to a loss of history unless you want to show how things decline.

Surely restoration would make history a living history and not a depressing 'look at what we've lost' history.
