They are present in pubs and eateries displaying the menu. The reason for that I think is it aesthetically pleasing. In fact ignoring PC and modernity... People respond to things represented in this way. The teacher would write in white chalk and throw the black-board eraser at us if we told jokes at the back! At University we had white-boards and our lecturers used felt tipped pens. (usually black or blue.) But 'Chalk-boards'? Is this National Trust (PC) speak?
