My mobile always gets turned off at night or any other time when I am out and about when I don't want to be disturbed.

I love my computer and the internet, but like you I much prefer I real book and my house is full of them. I also confess to preferring to use a Filofax/diary to keep my details and dates rather than any electronic gadget that could do the same thing.

I don't have a kindle but I do sometimes wonder if I should but only because there are so many free books online, some of which are out of print. I do have a rather eclectic taste in books ;-)

Some thins are better done as tangible objects. I don't think I'll get used to e-cards

Yes. Thanks for that. I think we are becoming used to people being on their 'phones 24/7, and it's not good but we can't do anything about it. There is no doubt that it is very disinhibiting, in that people seem to ignore the fact that others are listening.

A few years ago, one of my friends was the first to get a BlackBerry. She was so proud but really, she was on call at all times. A slave.

All this modern technology is fantastic but there is a downside. I like to read a book. Paper, pages, fall asleep and lose where you were. My youngest son has purchased a 'kindle' for me. How do you deal with being forced into the modern world without appearing ungracious?

It is very annoying isn't it and it is interesting to me to know it isn't just in this country. You take the intrusion better than I do, it winds me up and leads me to feeling angry...

You might like this post of mine from a couple of years ago... The person in the post with the mobile is the one this card was sent to ;-)

It's exactly the same here Cherie. I was looking around the train carriage the other evening and could not see a single person who wasn't texting or playing a game. The young Japanese man sitting next to me was so intensely caught up in his life or death duel that he almost missed his stop. It's mad.

Also, very annoying when somebody is always shouting out where they are and how long until they will arrive at their destination. Oh, and what's for dinner? Being forced to listen in to private conversations can sometimes be funny though and I do have to bite my lip sometimes to stop myself laughing out loud.

Have you not noticed how everyone in this country has there mobile phone glued to their hand/ear? It is not funny really, it is quite worrying but when it is sent to someone who has the mobile phone twitch it does raise an ironic smile ;-)
