Hi Calum, it is good to see you again :-)

It is ridiculous dressing up for Christmas so soon. I think I will avoid the shops until Christmas has come and gone...

It is the commercialism and the stupidity that annoys me.

You are correct in calling them dead trees, I have never bought one either. I don't think the trees in the picture are even inserted into wooden bases, they are just chopped off like a cut flower...

My Mum and Dad did have a small tree that grew in the garden and they brought in each Christmas which had pride of place in their conservatory at Christmas. One unfavorable summer saw it off, but I do still have fond memories of the tree and those Christmases :-)

I have to confess I have two trees as well ;-) I like to put the second one in the front of the house for other people to enjoy from outside, my main room is at the back of the house and not overlooked, so baring snooping the tree is not visible to others.

Feel free to rant as much as you like :-)

I have never bought a real tree, but I do like to see my artificial tree and its decorations for a couple of weeks over the festive season. It it always reminds me of gathering family and friends together and some wonderful memories over the years.

There were one or two occasions in recent years when I really couldn't be bothered, but I did it anyway and it did make a difference in the end :-)

I have never had a real tree in my house. I have an artificial one which I have enjoyed for many years :-)

As you commented it is the fact that they will not last until Christmas that annoyed me most. I also don't understand why someone would want to have a tree up in their house so many weeks before Christmas. But judging by the people I work with they like their Christmas trees and decorations up for weeks before the event...

Perhaps there is something wrong with me, I only like to put up my tree one or two weeks before Christmas. It gives me focus on the season of good will :-)

The commercialism and cashing in of what is supposed to be a festival for the Christian faith has always bothered me. I feel the same about cashing in on all sorts of other occasions too (Mothers/Fathers day for example). It only used to be for just a few weeks before Christmas but now it is dragged out for several months.

Now these things are dragged out over a period of time and no-one enjoys the actually event, even if all they were looking forward to getting a few days off work. Everyone is fed up with it before it arrives.

The thing that particularly annoyed me about the trees is what rusty duck mentions in her comment below. The trees will not last until Christmas. What a complete and utter waste and many ways!!!

Ooops! I see I have slipped into a rant... Normal service will be resumed ASAP.

Nothing surprises me now about the 'commercialisation' of our true traditions and religious celebrations. I have never in my whole life bought a dead 'real' tree. (ie those sawn off and their stumps inserted into wooden bases). If those in your picture are living trees, rooted in pots, then that is how I remember Christmas trees. Ours at home was growing in the garden, (still expecting to find it in one of my old photos) and every December potted up and probably about a week before the 25th, brought indoors and decorated. After the Festivities it was re-planted back into its hole, with a good layer of Dad's best compost. It always survived, :) and was welcomed back into our home the following Christmas.
Now in later years, I have always used an artificial tree as part of my Christmas decorations. Mind you, they are looking very 'aged', (and yes, I have two - I never throw anything away! ) after many, many happy years.

It is such a waste! I don't know why it is still allowed, and specially practiced (it seems the bigger, the better) in government buildings and churches. Those places should know better, and should give an example of conservation and long term wisdom to people. There are better ways to celebrate the Holidays than by using a freshly cut tree for such a short period. Sorry for the rant, Cherie. I haven't bought a real tree, for the last 20 years. And I give money, every year, to a tree planting association.
