As the Tyne bridge was completed earlier in 1928, some people believe that the Tyne Bridge was the Trendsetter or prototype for the Sydney Harbour bridge. The company who also designed & built the Sydney Harbour Bridge (from Middlesborough) started that project first. As the bridge was larger it took longer to complete and consequently the opening date was a lot later than that of the Tyne Bridge. The original design was based on the Sydney Harbour Bridge which in turn was based on a railway (sorry ... railroad :-) bridge in New York called Hell Gate ! (wonder if that was to do with the construction safety concerns ! ). A thought lost on all of the people I know who have been to New York as it's just outside the tourist area.

I have not heard of the argument...

This photo was taken from the Hotel Vermont's main car park. The Castle Keep in the current header photo was taken walking down the steps to the viewpoint of the swing bridge that I posted in my previous post.

I'm sure you've heard about the rivalry between the Tyne Bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sydney. OK, they won the argument but the smaller one is better :-) I wondered if you tried to get the framed arch shot of the Keep in the other direction, I suspect you have looking at your header... those railings and the wall below it can be quite annoying. ... So in a sense I find this image quite amusing for that reason alone.

Thank you :-) I quite like the angles too. The photo was taken from the carpark in front of the hotel that I stayed in.

I love the dark contrast there, and the railings combined with the bridge. Very nice
