The authors do not settle on a specific reason they consider various interpretations such as a ceremonial hill, viewing platform, maybe connected to the other sites in the landscape such as Avebury. It wasn't built all in one go, but in several stages. Some of the mound will have come from the ditch. But inside the archaeologists found different types of earth and stones.
