Our Mother&#039;s Day is connected with the Church calendar. As Amfortas mentioned in his comment when King Henry decided to break from the Church of Rome, declaring himself Head of the Church of England (just so he could get his own way) the tradition of &#039;Mothering Sunday&#039; changed.

That was actually nothing to do with mothers but referred to the &#039;home&#039; Church of individuals; the parish in which they were born. Their &#039;mother church&#039; place.</description>
