I do hope so Donna It has opened up a big gap so that privacy is bit of an issue, mostly in our upstairs rooms. It means we will have to get onto our plans for that corner of the garden so we can introduce something to grow a little higher along the back fence.

I doubt if anything you put in the ground would affect such a big beast. It will be fine on its own, I predict. Just watch.

I am hoping that it does regenerate, it has a good underground water supply to sustain it. I will have to look to see if there is something I can water into the ground in my garden that may help...

I think that it probably only needed a few of the older limbs to be removed rather than just about everything. Only two branches have fallen in the 16 years we have lived here and the latest one was after a severe gale.

I think the 404 (hopefully) was because I had got a strange character in the permalink which stopped the comments field on one of the posts being opened up. But I will keep my eye on it, thanks :-)

Recently a branch snapped and as the tree has a preservation order on it the council came out to give authority for the branch to be removed. I think they mentioned that perhaps some of the other branches may have to be removed also.

I don't know the full story, but I am sure they didn't mean hack it down to its current state as the tree was healthy!! It grew at an incredible rate and was quite magnificent.

I am hoping it might start to grow back. It has a good water supply as it grows by an underground spring as oaks are apt to do in open countryside which this area used to be.

I have seen such trauma being replaced by fine regeneration, and sooner than I expected, and nice to watch unfold. I expect it was justified, in such a location and if big branches were falling.

BTW: Error 404 returned yesterday, but glad to see it has not asted as long as it sometimes does.

I too hope it grows back and that it is not too traumatised. I noticed all the usual wildlife was absent from our garden this evening. The absence has given me the incentive to tackle the back of the garden which always gets overgrown from the bridle path.

I have already sourced a new shed which we had talked about just over a week before the tree was hacked down. This is more urgent now as it is not sheltered by the tree any more.

That does seem rather drastic. What a shame. I can only hope it grows back again. And quickly.
