I am also in awe of the old Cathedrals that were built with 'love and faith in God'. When I visit (not for a church service) these old churches, sometimes I feel a presence, quite moving and uplifting :-) Modern churches do not have that presence (for me), perhaps because they are not built on the same 'foundation' of the older churches.
