I don't usually get bitten by bugs but this is the second time this year. The first time was about 6 weeks ago and was just a few pin pricks.

I read the advice and didn't use anything on the bites. I had applied some germolene to them prior to reading up on the nasty little creatures. My only remedy was a soak in the bath and washing my leg gently with soapy water. This did relieve the heat from the area and my leg felt much better.

This photo was taken after some of the redness had subsided. The pain was excruciating if I tried to walk and I was worried about the wider complications that can occur. It was a bank holiday sunday and not many options for sorting such problems out.

The area is still a bit warmer than the rest of my leg but it is much improved with only the occasional itch.

You are not alone in having been the unwelcoming recipient of the dreaded Black Fly, twice this year my own delectable personage, to the likes of Black Fly and Horsefly, has been attacked with vengeance in the garden.

The presence of a pond and the wet summer (until August) seems to make an ideal breeding scenario for the b......, the only plus, and there are none really, is that the results of the Black Fly's feasting do not last as long as the Horsefly, well not in my case.
My commiserations Cherrie on an unwelcome attack , and as you have probably already found out little seems to ease the discomfort, just time.

I was quite worried about it until I did a google search and realised the symptoms where quite normal and nothing to worry about. I didn't have any of the symptoms that meant I had experienced an allergic reaction or infection as a result of the bite,

72 hours later (as advised in the articles I researched) my leg has stopped hurting and no longer feels hot to the touch. The redness has reduced, but my leg is still not a pretty sight...
