I fell in love with Newcastle when I stayed there for business many years ago. I walked back to the hotel through the city after an evening meal (others were talking business) but one of my northern colleagues pointed out all the historical points of interest to me. Yes, Jesmond Dene House was the home of Armstrong before he bought Cragside, he gifted the Dene to the people. I think the bakery you mention In Kirkby Lonsdale is the one teashop that Mr C had been intending to visit ;-) We are planning our next trip to Northumberland, taking in Newcastle along the way.
