And why do we find it beautiful rather than horrifying or frightening? I wonder. I suspect natural selection has selected what we find beautiful in a way that preferentially fosters the survival and reproduction of those of us happily in appreciation of the natural world; and that creatures on other worlds, of which I suspect there are multitudes, may find beauty in rather different things. That is a beautiful photograph though, to me. Everything is beautiful, in some way though, even what we call ugly. I like contradictions.
