I have read too, and have been unimpressed. A plant is cut, there is a physical reaction that spreads through the system, unsurprisingly, and some human decides to call it "pain". A human talks to a plant, all the time breathing out carbon dioxide and water vapour - its food - all over it, and the cells respond in a way some human decides is a response to the talking rather than to the carbon dioxide and the water vapour. Chemicals released by plants have chemical influences on others, unsurprisingly, but some human decides they are communicating as if "aware" of each other. But of course we must all kill something to survive, until we evolve to photosynthesise for ourselves. As for geese and ducks and lambs and cattle and kindness, however, I do know that our modern mass production methods of meat and dairy production treats most animals, in ways that are far removed from "kindness", which was my point. I still eat meat though, occasionally, and dairy, often. I will never reach that "heaven".

I have not heard of the Backster effect, you will have to explain that to me.

I have read some interesting books on plant life. Two in particular spring to mind.

Oh... the old Backster effect? I quote you "In the ensuing years, several legitimate plant scientists tried to reproduce the Backster effect without success. Much of the science in “The Secret Life of Plants” has been discredited"... There is an awful lot of utter tosh claimed in the name of supposed science (even if my cut flowers are glaring at me as I write and screaming I am a murderer).

And don't forget plants and vegetables... There are experiments that show that they feel pain and react to negative thoughts and actions directed at them.

With thoughts like that, man would soon be extinct ;-)

Birds also kill to eat:

Animals should be treated kindly even when they are part of the food chain.

Nice geese. Lovely photo. No more goose at the festive season then. Eating them seems unkind to the little creatures.
