On Monday I returned from a mini break in York, walking the glass trail, the walls and exploring the city beyond.
We returned home to find that we had an electrical problem, part of the electrics were off and the fridge and freezer had defrosted. We reset the trip switch but it tripped several times more that evening leading us to call out an engineer (we are covered by a service contract).
This meant that on Tuesday I was stuck in the house waiting for an electrician and gas service man. Being house bound led me to seeing this beauty in my garden. I wasn’t quick enough to capture him on the ground before he flew onto the fence.
Our electrical problem is inconclusive. After extensive tests the electrician thought it was the central heating pump causing the problem but when the gas engineer arrived he couldn’t find any faults and no matter what he tried he couldn’t replicate the problem that caused the switch to trip. We are left with an empty freezer that we are reluctant to restock and the niggling suspicion that it is the fridge/freezer that is at fault.
I will be sharing more about my travels soon, I am currently editing my photographs.
Coming home after wonderful travels is always a bit ordinary, isn’t it.
But a melted freezer is awful.
I felt the ordinary after we returned home from Taormina in October. After I difficult year, when I returned I had the winter blues.
Spring slowly arriving has uplifted my spirits so although I am upset about the Freezer mostly due to some special things that were in there I am still feeling upbeat
Hope you had a good time in York but not nice to come back to electrical problems – I hope you get them sorted soon. In just over 40 years I’ve only ever seen Red Legged Partridge in the garden once!
Last year was the first time ever I had seen one near my house. In fact it was a pair of them in my front garden and my neighbours front gardens. Eventually the settled somewhere around the corner from me, visiting my front garden from time to time throughout the year.
This is the first time I have seen one in my back garden!
I have seen this red legged partridge in the wild before.
But pheasants are the ones I come across mostly.
Yes pheasants are more common to see. This little beauty was an unexpected delight
Yes, indeed. What I don’t understand is pheasants are classified as “protected” species, which cannot be shot throughout the year.
Pheasants are not a protected species they are covered by the Game Act which allows shooting outside the breeding season.
I am beginning to wonder if ‘no bird’ is safe in your sights. First geese now pheasant i wonder what is next…
This reminds me of that Henry IV of France (1589-1610), criticised by his confessor for his many liaisons, let serve him his favourite meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and with great pleasure noticing the teeth of his confessor from day to day becoming longer, finally asked: “Toujours perdrix?” (Every day partridge?)

Ha ha ha.
The peace of the night!
The peace of the night to you too xx
Wow, I hope that this is not going to be a continuing story all together “again”…… no repairs in future and I hope it will be solved soon.
The problem has settled down for now. But we are not confident that it won’t happen again.
I always enjoy a trip to York, although I haven’t been for a few years now.
What a wonderful capture! We were graced by the presence of a woodpecker in the back garden a week or so ago. I can usually hear them up in the trees on the hill, but it ventured down into the garden that day. Of course, I didn’t have time to grab my camera and I haven’t seen it since.
How lovely to see a woodpecker in your garden
I heard one whilst I was walking last week but I did not see it.
hi Cherie… i like the hansom bird that flew from your from the garden up to the fence…
i’m sorry that you had problems with your electricity and lost all of the food in your freezer and fridge…
i hope that the service men have solved your problem for you…..peter:)
They were not able to find out what the problem is/was. Everything seems to be working OK again but we are wondering if the problem will occur again.
oh i am sorry about electrical problems you faced on return dear Cheri
hope they are sorted out and fixed soon
this is lovely bird your garden has beautiful visitors
I love my garden visitors they are a delight. Some of them treat me to delightful song
I am still not sure what caused the electrical problem but it might have been the fridge which seems to be less noisy now than before we went away.
