Clun Castle

It was lovely to be able to embark on a morning drive to Clun. When we arrived, although there was hardly anyone we had a little trouble finding a place to park. Once we had solved the parking problem we headed to the Postcard Cafe for an early lunch. After ordering lunch, in my case a scone we chose a table outside. The wind became gusty so we retreated inside.

When my scone arrived it was eclipsed by the volume of cream and jam (cream on one half of the sliced scone and jam on the other half). I rearranged everything so that I had just enough cream and jam on each half of the scone. The jam being fruity rather than sweet was especially delicious and was complimented by a fresh strawberry.

Whilst we were eating there was a thud outside! The road is quite narrow and a camper van had reversed to allow a camper van coming in the opposite direction to pass by. Unfortunately the camper van knocked a sun parasol (that was shading one of the outside tables) causing it to fall over.  The driver of the camper van was mortified, but no harm was done.  The falling parasol missed the couple who with their babe in arms were sitting underneath it.

After lunch we set off on a short but extremely windy walk to Clun Castle. All too soon it was time to return home so that Mr C could enjoy the first (delayed) Grand Prix of the season.

Thank goodness no harm was done when the parasol fell …

Lovely pictures on your post … yes, it does look windy :)

    All the best Jan

  2. Looks lovely. As I read, my initial reaction was “You call a scone lunch?” but then reading on it seems it was somewhat more substantial than a mere scone. But apparently the most vital issue was jam on top or cream on top? Although with it cut in half I suppose you could have had the best of both worlds. It is generally jam on top for me, although I suppose one time I could go absolutely crazy and try it the other way round – make life an adventure eh?

The scone was served with cream on one half and jam on the other… disturbing. I had to rearrange what I had been presented with so that there was cream and jam on both halves of the scone.

For me it is cream first followed by jam on top but I could live with jam first rather than the strange arrangement I was presented with on this occasion!

  3. It’s always hard to find a parking space in Clun! Although I was lucky the last time I went and the car park by the bridge had a few spaces free.

Mr C parked on the side of the road just outside the carpark (there are no restrictions). By the time we had finished lunch several other cars had been parked in the same way. I think he started a trend…

      • There’s a lovely little shop on the square which I love to visit. Yes, there’s usually cars parked along the road too.

I once made the mistake of going Clun way home from Ludlow, completely forgetting the Green Man Festival was on. I swear it took half an hour to get from one side to the other!

We also made the mistake of trying to visit Clun when the Green Man Festival was on.

We couldn’t get a parking space anywhere in town so we moved on to visit somewhere else instead. I can’t remember where we went…
