I have only ever had the privilege of seeing a red squirrel on two occasions. The first time was near Loch Earn and the second time was near to Chillingham Castle. The reds seem to be making a comeback (perhaps having developed resistance to an illness carried in by the greys?) and I hear the now more hardy reds are also spreading southwards again, like ginger-haired Scots crossing the border soon perhaps, but maybe more welcome than some of our ginger-haired Scots.
