I don't worry too much when I have to pay to visit Heritage sites. The money for the ongoing upkeep has to come from somewhere, otherwise our heritage would be lost to the ravages of time. It used to be free, now they charge you some £16+ for entry after major restoration works, with funds given by the National Heritage Fund. I mean I can understand if they start charging us money if they spent their own money to restore the ceiling. But how dare they increased the fee from nothing to £16 like that? So unjustifiable. Reported sightings of figures and some odd sensations. I think I encountered one of the latter, at the top of a stairway. I didn't think anything of it at the time, I just thought my legs had gone a bit wobbly at the top of a staircase. It was only later when I read the guidebook that I found out that it was one of the places where psychic activity had been recorded. No not sensational like in the movies.
