But when I was in primary school in the mid 1950s, the room was much bigger and the double wooden desks were much better spaced. In that school there were outdoor toilets on a lower level. I remember that you could look down to see the corridor that led to the individual cubicles. I also remember the wooden stilts. I don't remember the cane in that school but I do remember it being used in the next school up and on to the senior school. Girls had the slipper.
