The Loggia Palace is a Venetian Gothic palace, the only preserved Gothic town hall in Slovenia.

The earliest part of the existing building dates from 1462, when building work began on a replacement for an earlier Loggia that had stood in the same position on the north side of the main square of Koper, opposite the Praetorian Palace.[1]

Following a plague outbreak in Koper in 1553-1555,[2] the facade of the Loggia was embellished with coats-of-arms, and a terracotta statue of the Madonna and Child was erected in a niche above the left corner column.

Further work was carried out in 1698, when a second storey was added and the facade was extended with two additional arches taken from the west side of the palace.[3]

The Loggia currently houses a cafe on the ground floor.[4][5] In the second floor, it houses an art gallery operated by the Piran Coastal Galleries.

I prepared dinner as soon as I arrived home from work and put it in the oven to cook whilst I went for a cycle ride in the early evening sunshine. The weather was perfect and I wished I could have stayed out a little longer but I was on a time schedule. The veg needed turning on after 40 minutes. Despite my best intentions I was a little late back due to getting into conversation with a lady who was walking her dog. Seeing me on my bicycle had inspired her to go home and pump up the tyres on her bike so she could go for a cycle ride tomorrow.

I turned the oven down and the veg on when I arrived home. Whilst the veg was cooking Mr C laid the patio table ready for dinner whilst I sorted out my cycle helmet hair! It is always nice to eat on the patio but it is not quite the same without the backdrop of the branches of ‘My Oak Tree’ blowing in the breeze and catching the sunlight in its branches.

For some reason I felt rather lethargic on Sunday (yesterday) and struggled to get myself going. I had planned a short cycle ride but the dull weather made me hesitate. I read a book for a while, made and ate my lunch, read a bit more and then I forced myself to go ahead with my planned cycle ride. As soon as I opened the front door the sun came out.

I made my way through the local housing estates to the green belt of countryside, which is a joy to cycle around. However it is upsetting to see most of the gates to the green fields sporting a sign saying ‘Land reserved for future development’.

Due to the recent autumnal weather I picked up a fleece before I left the house but it wasn’t needed. Summer had returned, I got rather overheated and had to take a rest and sit on a bench to cool down… It gave me the excuse to play around with some artistic photo shots

The weather reprieve meant it was warm enough for us to enjoy our Sunday evening roast on the patio watching the sun descend behind ‘my oak tree‘. A perfect end to the day

…due to an unfortunate weekend incident.

On arrival at work this morning I was greeted at the doorway and informed that most of the electrics in the building were not working. Hot and cold water were available and partial lighting in one of the ladies toilet facilities. I was also told that if I was not comfortable with these arrangements I could go to a nearby building to use the facilities there.

We moved office buildings in early 2011 to a building that had been newly refurbished. One of the features was state of the art water boilers for hot drinks. They are billed as having the capacity of providing 200 cups of boiling water per hour. They never quite lived up to expectations and broke down frequently and the temporary alternatives were less than adequate.

The decision was eventually made to provide wall mounted zip boilers in addition to the current facilities. These were fitted over a weekend two weeks ago. They did not get wired up for use that weekend because the electrician had fallen ill. The work was rescheduled for last weekend. The electrician turned up but an unfortunate incident occurred. He dropped his screwdriver shorting out most of the building’s electrical circuits and at the same time gave himself quite a ’shock’. We were informed that the electrician was alright (thank goodness).

The building facilities were back up and running mid morning but the computer systems took a little longer… And the hot drink facilities are still less than adequate.

After a day like that it was an ideal opportunity to take advantage of the sunny weather and hop on my bicycle to enjoy a relaxing cycle ride. The experimental route I chose was rather overgrown (including lots of brambles and nettles). This was not ideal especially as the pathways are supposed to be part of the local cycle network. This meant I had to do a lot of walking in addition to the cycling. On the plus side, at least it gave me a bit of exercise
