For today’s walk I retraced my steps after my planned circular walk picking up a prescription for my mum did not work out according to plan yesterday. I took time to look at the finer detail leading me to some childhood memories rather than the circular walk I had planned. I loved every minute of the walk

Here follows the tale of my walk to the pharmacy.

On arrival at the pharmacy to pick up mums prescription I noticed that there were a lot of people in front of the building. I stopped on the corner of the road to put on a face mask and then started to make my way down the path to the pharmacy. As I did so I heard continuous coughing behind me and turned to see a man coughing and blowing his nose with his mask up and down. Not wanting to take any chances I stepped aside to let him past me.

As I joined the queue for the pharmacy it became apparent there were two queues. There was another queue of people waiting for their Covid vaccine at the medical practice next door. The two doors are next to each other which led to chaos and people joining the wrong queue.

Eventually it was time for me to enter the pharmacy, only to find that mums prescription had been not been made up. I had to wait outside whilst the prescription was made up.

As I was waiting I listened to the saga of two men that had turned up expecting to be vaccinated and were turned away. I found out later from the local newspaper that there had been an administrative error. Text messages had been sent out to advise that Covid vaccines were available without an appointment when this was not the case. I didn’t hear the full tail of their woes…

My mums name was called out, her prescription was ready. What I received seemed to differ from what she told me had been prescribed to her leading me to take it round to her straight away rather than later in the day on my evening visit.

Rather than my circular route I walked the direct route home to pick up my car! To add insult to injury it started to rain as I made my way back home.

Thankfully when mum and I looked at the bag of pills and paperwork they were what she had ordered.

To my disappointment I couldn’t persuade Mr C to set off on a walking adventure.

So after lunch I had a solo walk to some childhood haunts near to what was once my family home as I was growing up. I walked past the Wrekin College and the houses at the crossroads where two of my friends lived.

One of those friends had a parent that was a teacher at the college and I have fond memories of walking through the college grounds with her. But of course those walks are out of bounds to me now. I enjoyed the views from outside the boundary walls.

Thinking of my childhood friends and one of those houses reminded me of a birthday party. The birthday party got interrupted with black and white footage of the Apollo 13 Command Module landing safely.

I was trying to find a picture of the backdoor as it was when we first moved into the house. I know there is one there somewhere…

I had placed my camera on my tripod inside the house and set it for delayed time whilst ran from the lounge through the kitchen and into the garden for a bit of photo fun

The photos show the lounge windows but the door is off to the side. The photos also show the garden and ‘My Oak Tree’ as they were in 2007.

An update on the backdoor coming soon, with or without a photo of the original door!

This morning I enjoyed my brief walk from the car park to my office. The trees are full of autumn glory and the leaves had lined the footpath so I was able to swoosh my feet through them as I walked along, behaving as if I was a little girl. Unfortunately I have no photos to share but I was reminded of a holiday to Bruges in 2010 which was also in early November. The trees around Bruges were showing their full splendour of autumn colour. Perhaps they were a gift for me

I booked today off work so I could spend some time in my local memorial garden followed by lunch out. I was hoping for a nice relaxing day away from work and was rather dismayed when I arrived at home yesterday to find that one of the front tyres on my car looked rather deflated. I was not at all sure I should be driving with it like that…

This morning before he went to work Mr C kindly drove my car to the garage to check out the tyres and get them to the correct pressure before he went to work I had a gentle start to the day to enable the sun to stay out and dry the bench that I intended to sit on in the memorial garden and also to ensure that my car tire had stayed inflated before I set out on my journeys. Eventually I ventured out.

When I arrived on the long driveway that leads to the memorial garden I was flagged down and directed to park by the side of the road because the car park was full. This led to me taking a short pleasant walk in the sunshine before I could sit and rest a while on ‘the bench’ in amongst the trees that reflect upon the pond. After reflections I made my way back to the car and decided to call in at my usual travel agent to pick up some brochures for ‘our’ next vacation. This was a big mistake.

When I entered the travel agent I found an almost empty shell with a few desks on one side of the large building and large photos of brochure covers on the other side of the building. I am used to going in, browsing around and choosing brochures/holidays that capture my imagination. I was a bit bewildered and was just about to leave when I was approached by one of the assistants. I told her where I wanted to travel to. She was only able to provide me with one brochure. Apparently they are expecting a delivery for the rest of the brochures…

Whilst I was in the vicinity I decided to pop into Dunhelm to look for a vase for my poppy and suitable hook for my heart collection. I didn’t find either but it was a good place to have lunch before retreating somewhere much calmer to enjoy the glorious weather which is a change from the recent windy and rainy days.

On a whim I chose Attingham Park. I was so glad I did I was pleased to discover that the courtyard is now complete and the walled garden has changed yet again since my last visit. If you have been following my thoughts for a while I am sure you know how much I enjoy walled gardens; the one at Attingham in particular which I have watched develop over the years. Whilst at Attingham Park I was tempted to an afternoon (naughty) cake because my favourite coffee and walnut cake was available for the first time for quite some time.

When I arrived home I sat in the garden for some time, reading a book and enjoying the sunshine. I was surprised to see the that the Anniversary Rose was sporting an unusually large amount of buds a blooms, 23 in all Whilst in the garden I unexpectedly spotted a couple of smooth pebbles behind the seat I was sitting on. They were just what I needed for a photographic project that I have been contemplating for some time…

The day wouldn’t have been complete without enjoying dinner on the patio

It is my turn at Vision & Verb today, I am reflecting on my adventures of 2013.

It is that time of year again for the Rotary Clubs annual ‘Tree of Light‘, where people are invited to sponsor a light on the tree in memory of a loved one, or a cause that is dear to them. The monies that are raised are given to various charities, the choices are different each year.  Telford Hospice, Telford and Wrekin Young carers, Headway Shropshire and Alzheimer’s Society are the 2013 choices for my local Rotary clubs.

The name and symbolism of the ‘Tree of Light’ reminds us that there can be light and hope even in bleak circumstances.  The main aim of the ‘Tree of Light’ is to serve the public and the community which is at the heart of the Rotary organisation whose motto is ‘service above self”.
