A friend was visiting to work on a war game scenario with Mr C followed by board games. I had just enough time for a local walk in the glorious sunshine. On my walk I took a selfie in the same place I took the rainy-day selfie on my way back from my recent volunteering at a local school.

Back at home we enjoyed a game of Pillars of the Earth. Then we sat on the patio soaking up the sunshine before a roast beef dinner.

After dinner we played another board game, Zooloretto. I have lost my touch; I didn’t win either of them… But I came a close second

I walk to my Thursday volunteering session at my local school whatever the weather. Usually the weather is kind to me but today it was a little damp.

Later in the day we dined out at the Bear Inn, Hodnet for a birthday celebration.

I needed to visit the Madely dental practice to drop off a form for my mum and by the time this had been done it was time for lunch. After a bit of thought Western Park seemed a suitable place but on arrival, we found the café was closed.

We resumed our journey, pondering a suitable alternative for lunch. As luck would have it, I spotted a sign for Boscobel House which I know has a good café. I settled for a jacket potato with beans which was served tastefully with a side salad.

After lunch we walked to White Ladies Priory. I have always wanted to do this walk but on previous visits there has not been enough time. The sun was out bathing us in a warm glow and also showcasing the distant Shropshire hills.

I enjoyed my walk ‘there and back again’. Afterwards a naughty cake (blueberry and banana) was calling me… The cake was delicious, and  being able to sit outside in the sunshine was an added bounus.  A resiedent robin came to our table to share a few crumbs that had been left behind.

After my volunteering shift at Attingham Park it was good to be able to set off for a walk, my first opportunity for two days. On Sunday we had a lovely family gathering to celebrate my brother’s birthday and on Monday I accompanied my mum to the hospital plaster room after her recent fall.

The blooms and spring greenery are stunning at this time of year and my walk was accompanied by the music of birdsong. During my volunteering session it was lovely that several visitors, as they were leaving stopped to say how much they had enjoyed their visit.

Even though I didn’t have the opportunity for a walk today I almost reached my daily mile goal whilst shopping for the weeks food supplies.

I spent the afternoon in a local pub garden celebrating a friends ’significant’ birthday. The weather was sunny, warm and glorious which meant that later in the day we were able to enjoy ‘Fine Dining’ on the patio at Chez Nous.

I was pleased when my recently ordered board game arrived a day or two earlier than expected. Not having to wonder if a parcel might arrive meant that I could enjoy an afternoon walk in the sunshine.

I chose to walk along Hurley Brook which can be linked to a pathway that leads to Hadley Locks. For some reason the locks are once again surrounded by industrial fencing which is not appealing to the eye or camera lens.

My walk led me back to a favourite place of mine, Leegomery Pool. Some works around the pool have led it to feel more urban than the quiet country space that it used to be. I think the ducks and geese agree, only a few remain and I haven’t seen any babies this year.

Later in the day, after my 5 mile walk Mr C and I walked into town (another 2 miles) for a small gathering to celebrate a friend’s significant birthday. There was much laughter and a dear friend drove us home.

If you are wondering about the railroads… Building railroads is the theme of a board game, building the railway to the Snowdon summit. There are many expansion packs adding to the idea, exploring other railroads in both England and the wider world. The game is out of print but I was lucky to source a new copy along with the expansion pack that corrects some cards that were incorrectly printed wrong in the Deluxe Master set edition of the game.

I am looking forward to playing the game with friends. It has railroad scenarios unique to them.

I turned up for my shift at Attingham Park to find a former colleague was also on the same volunteering shift. It was lovely to see him and catch up on old times, that spanned for more than 30 years. We saw a lovely former colleague leaving Attingham, someone whose company I had enjoyed (we sat next to each other) for several years before she retired.

The glorious sunny weather that we  have been experiencing over the bank holiday weekend has lingered on allowing me to explore a new walk around the Attingham Estate after I had finished my volunteering opportunity.

I walked through the deer park, past the Berwick memorial, picking up a walk in the woodlands before returning along the river path. I was too busy enjoying the walk to take any photos, apart from just one as I entered the deer park.

Should I mention that a small portion of cake slipped onto a plate just before I embarked on what turned out to be  4 mile walk?
