Storm Goretti paints the garden white and in the process causes a couple of short power cuts. Just long enough to stop the daft film that Mr C had put on, as it reached its culmination. The film was logged in through Mr C’s account and he had fallen asleep so I couldn’t log back in to see the end of the film…

When we got up we found that the weather was rather inclement so, after we had finished our breakfast and checked out, we decided not to go into York but instead to keep our options open and perhaps visit a property or museum on the way home.

As we were driving the weather soon turned to snow and the world either side of the motorway became white. We decided that stopping off was not the best option and made our way straight home. As we got close Shropshire there was no snow at all, just rain, so rather than go straight home we stopped off at David Austin Roses for lunch which was a nice end to our short break away.

Earlier this week the spring weather looked promising but now a cold blast of snow has returned from the east.

During Saturday, we expect snow showers to affect parts of Northeast, East and Southeast England down to sea level with patchy accumulations in places, especially where showers converge and become better organised. At the moment, we expect this across parts of Lincolnshire, Norfolk and regions around the Thames Estuary.

During Sunday we expect more widespread snow showers to develop across parts of Southeast, Central and Southern England as well as parts of East Ireland. There remains a low/moderate risk of heavier snow developing for a time across parts of Southern England on Sunday morning with accumulations of 1-5cm, perhaps higher across parts of the North/South Downs and High Weald areas.

A significant wind chill will develop across much of England and Wales on Saturday and Sunday with overnight penetrating ground frosts and ice on untreated surfaces.

Today it has been very cold and it has snowed for most of the day. Thankfully the snow was fine and dry so it hasn’t built up very much but this meant that the heavy gusts of wind (from Storm Emma) caused mini snow blizzards and snow drifts.

It is still snowing now and this is how my garden looks late in the evening.

It was freezing outside causing the heating to work overtime. We had a mixture of sunshine and snow blizzards throughout the day. The snow has gained ground from yesterday, but only slightly.
