Tuesday

Our kitchen fitter experiencing none of the previous day’s travel dramas arrived on time. Shortly afterwards the tiler arrived.

Later in the morning I drove to Attingham Park for my usual Tuesday volunteering at Visitor Reception. The day was lovely and warm compared to the previous Tuesday afternoon and also the flooding had subsided. This led to a steady afternoon with some regular visitors and dog walkers returning after Christmas and the subsequent cold snap.

I returned home to find the kitchen fitting had moved on in leaps and bounds. I love the tiled feature panel behind the extractor fan.

We visited mum, who for some reason thought she was going home. Her bag was packed and she had her coat on.

Afterwards we intended to dine in Miller & Carter but when we arrived, despite the website saying otherwise they were too busy to accommodate us and we would have to wait an hour. We returned to Wellington and The Cock Hotel where we both chose different versions of the festive roast than we had on our previous visit.

Tuesday

The kitchen units arrived and were stacked around the house, both inside and out. Shortly afterwards the plumber arrived and worked miracles with the piping under the sink. It now looks much neater than it has ever done before.

Next the wall and floor units were installed ready for the finer tuning. During the afternoon whilst one of the cabinets was being fitted to the wall the ceiling light winked out and refused to work again. This reminded me of ‘the case of the flickering lights’ which occurred several years ago due to a loose connection where a ceiling extractor fan had been fed off a light fitting.

Our kitchen fitter pointed out that the existing fan was not connected to the hose extractor and on closer inspection it looked as if it had never been connected. No wonder we had been having problems with the extractor fan over the years.

We visited mum to see how she was before dining out. Our intention was to go to The William Withering but we flexed the plan at the last minute and went to the Cock Hotel instead because I knew that the festive menu was still available. I chose spicy carrot wellington with all the roast trimmings. It was delicious.

The Cock Hotel in Wellington has been in the process of refurbishment for some time. In recent days as we drove past we noticed that the refurbishment was moving more quickly.

This inspired me to read up about the developments and plans inspiring me to walk to the Cock Hotel to see the results of the outside developments. How different it looks to when I visited for Friday lunch time meetings. I can’t wait to see what it looks like inside.

I didn’t take any photos of the Old Coaching Inn, just a few photos from my walk there and back again.
