He resided 13 Highfield Road on 24 Mar 1923 in Levenshulme, Manchester.(9) He was a Railway Carter on 28 Aug 1926.(4) He was buried on 13 Apr 1927 in Willow Grove Cemetry, South Reddish, Stockport.(9) Gladys, Elsie, Richard Aldred and Martha were buried in a family grave. This is shown by the burial certificate and records at Sockport Cemetery Office. He resided. He was married to Martha Tomkins on 4 Jun 1900 in Parish Church of Coppenhall, County of Chester, Crewe. (5) Witnesses to marriage were Richard Mead Tomkins and Maria Tomkins. There is a family grave located in Willow grove Cemetery, South Reddish, Stockport. Originally the grave consisted of 4 curb stones with corner stones and also a low headstone which showed the death of Gladys and Elsie. This headstone and the curb stone that showed the death of Martha were not located during my visit to the grave on 5th May 2001.

Martha Tomkins was born on 3 Jul 1876 in 19 Flag Lane, Monks Coppenhall, Crewe.(10) (8)(11) She resided 19 Flag Lane on 3 Jul 1876 in Monks Coppenhall, Crewe.(10) She resided 19 Flag Lane on 3 Apr 1881 in Monks Coppenhall, Crewe. (11) She was a Domestic Servant Housemaid on 5 Apr 1891.(12) She resided 30 Meredith Street on 5 Apr 1891 in Monks Coppenhall, Crewe. (12) She resided 3 Ridgway Street on 4 Jun 1900 in Crewe. (5) She resided 26 Kirkstall street between 31 Mar 1901 and 7 Jun 1906 in Ardwick, Manchester.(2) (8) They lived here for at least this period. She was buried on 28 Jun 1956 in Willow Grove Cemetry, South Reddish, Stockport. (9) Gladys, Elsie, Richard Aldred and Martha were buried in a family grave. This is shown by the burial certificate and records at Sockport Cemetery Office. {Mum remembers Martha had a sister called Alice who had a sweet shop. She was more glamorous than Martha. Her husband was a mason. There was a wooden toilet down the yard where she lived. Their son had an open top coupe.

Some Tomkins' had connections with Bredbury hall but not Martha's direct family.}

{Martha took to bed with a cold and didn't get up till the day she died 7 years later. She used to rule the house from the bedroom. She used to knock on the bedroom floor to see Eric Jefferson if he did not go to see her quick enough when he was visiting Elsie Burgess} Children were:

(2) She was buried on 27 Dec 1923 in Willow Grove Cemetry, South Reddish, Stockport.(9) Gladys, Elsie, Richard Aldred and Martha were buried in a family grave. child iv. Stanley Burgess was born on 7 Jun 1906 in 26 Kirkstall Street, Ardwick, Manchester. (13)(2) He resided on 7 Jun 1906 in Ardwick, Manchester. (13) He died on 14 Sep 1970 in 13 Highfield Road, Levenshulme. (13) He resided 13 Highfield Road on 14 Sep 1970 in Levenshulme, Manchester.(13) He was a Costing Clerk (paper manufacturers).(13) {He wanted to join the Tank Corps, but his mother told him no to. He was told that he should be grateful that he was in a reserved occupation.}
