…OR – Yet Another of Those Days!
Today was the day of the PCS Midlands Regional AGM which was held in Nottingham. I knew it was going to be another of those days because I hadn’t slept very well and was tired when I woke up. Someone else’s mishaps along the way meant that at least I got a lift to the station therefore avoiding a 20 minute walk. This was good because it was absolutely freezing this morning; the small of my back and my knees were going numb whilst I was waiting at the station.
I had arrived at the station in plenty of time and could have caught an earlier train than the one I had planned. However, I had promised to meet with several colleagues so we could all travel on the same train so I chose to wait. As soon as the first train had left the station, the display board changed from ‘on time’ to ‘cancelled’ for the train I was due to catch. A quick flurry of phone calls took place to formulate plan B and we then had time for a hot cup of tea in the station cafe to warm up. Now it was time to catch the next train which was rather chocka but I did manage to get a seat so that this leg of the journey was fine.
Even though we all got a seat on the next leg of the journey, it was not fine. Two youths decided to sit on the seats next to us and played Indian music so loud it was difficult to hear ourselves speak. Despite various hints and looks, they carried on regardless until another couple of colleagues got on, one of whom sat next to the youths. After a while she told them that loud music is fine in your own home but not in a public place, could they turn it down so she could hear herself talk. Well, bad attitude or what..?
They turned their backs and faced the window, obviously cursing her in a foreign language. She commented loudly upon this poor behaviour as an aside to the rest of us! Despite this, they did turn the music down and there was no escape for them because they were trapped in their window seats.
We arrived 30 minutes late for our meeting but the chairman had waited for us to arrive before starting. At this point the day things started to get better, the buffet lunch was excellent and I managed to get myself voted back onto the regional committee. The journey home was much less stressful.
I was going to take a picture of my home station but after yesterday’s post I wondered if I might look rather suspicious lurking around at night taking photos, so I hope you enjoy this one instead.

I have given passing thought to marketing a new ringtone for adult mobile ‘phones. After the age of 25yrs we cannot hear a programme of randomly selected tones from 14Khz to 18Khz. So adults still do not hear them when they are played very loud, say 125dB(A). At that level, feral youths will be on their knees begging for mercy.
Ahh! that would have been so much fun today I was all for sending them back to the country of their language until they could learn to speak English in public… But of course I am not allowed to say that…
Another day indeed. Great shot though! Happy weekend
That is quite a special station
Vile journey, Cherie – glad to hear all was well later. And, as ever, you mined it visually to great advantage: love the pic.
We have had our fair share of bad journeys like that along the way…
Cherie – that is precisely the issue. People with scant regard for conventions and not even speaking the language putting themselves about as if they’re laws unto themselves. The reason is the malaise in the society, abetted and condoned from the top, which allows this to continue.
People don’t like to hear these things said but they need to be said and they need to be addressed.
I couldn’t agree with you more James. These were youngsters, and they must have got that sort of attitude from their parents. The lady who told them off did it as a mother would to her children which is why they did what she said despite their mouthing off at her.
As you say these things do need to be addressed.
Shouldn’t that half slice of lemon be in a gin and tonic?
That is a very good place for a half slice of lemon although I do prefer lime in mine
The station looks nice, I bet it look much nicer in daylight.
It is fascinating inside
Very undesirable! But it is comforting to know that rude youths are not only in America!
My Photo Hunt: Undesirable is up. I hope you have time to visit. Have a good weekend.
Rude youths seem to be everywhere at the moment. It must be a sign of the times.
Train travel is not always a desirable experience. But your photo makes the station look warm and inviting.
Have a happy weekend Cherie.
That was quite a lovely station inside it had been moved from Paris and rebuilt.
Just the loud Indian music was undesirable enough for this theme. Beautiful photo though.
The loud music was a real irritation on the train journey, we already had to contend with the loud rattling of the parcel racks…
wwwwwwwwwwwow, Fairy, this is simply amazing !!!!
so much dreams and magic !!!
