Fresh Start

Fresh StartI have been well intentioned with trying to lose weight for more than a couple of years.  My weight has stayed much the same despite fluctuating up and down a few pounds here and there.  It probably isn’t a good idea to decide to lose weight when life itself is a bit up and down due to circumstances beyond your control.

Inspired by an article in the latest (September) issue of the Weight Watchers magazine I have now drawn a line in the sand (or is that a star on the graph?) and I am determined to start again properly.

I logged onto the Weight Watchers on-line tools so that I could use the graph there to track my weight.  It wasn’t quite as simple as that because I had forgotten my user name and password.  I got my user name sent to my email address but when I reset my password it didn’t recognise the user name.  After a while it decided to ask me one of those memorable questions which happened to be ‘what is your fathers name’, which wasn’t entirely welcome, though it did however decide to send me a password reset so I was able to get into the site.

I have set myself a target of losing on average 1lb a week before the end of October, which means that if I keep on track I will have lost ‘one stone’.  Even if I don’t manage that, as long as there is a downward trend I will be happy.  I will keep you updated along the way.

Now all I need is for those people who keep wafting, biscuits, cakes and peanuts under my nose to stop!!!

Thanks for the mention. 1lb a week sounds like a nice and manageable aim!!

Thanks for your inspiration. I know I can do it I just needed to get my head in gear.

I will be following you to help keep me on track :-)

Many think an effective diet involves hunger or joining a club of fatties who lose weight temporarily to pile the pounds back on in yo-yo fashion. Such people also starve themselves, denying their bodies essential nutrients for cell chemistry and repairs.

Just cut out all fats including butter, margarine and fried meals. No processed foods, cheese, sugar, biscuits, chocolate, white bread, pies, cakes, ice cream, beer, spirits or milk (except skimmed). Eat lean red meat only once a week if you must and switch to fresh fish if you can. Tinned foods are useless.

You can now eat as much as you wish of all the remaining fresh foods, taking in plenty of water and exercising three times a week. In this way you can shed 2/3 lbs per week and never feel hungry. You will also develop a dislike for the foods you have given up and you will achieve and more importantly maintain a healthy body mass.

      Thanks :-)

Don’t worry I won’t be starving myself. The last few years have been a little difficult, which led to irregular meals which also leads to snacking in between meals, comfort eating etc.

I agree with you about those faddy yo yo diets, they are a waste of time. I go to weight watchers for the moral support and to keep me focused. They do give good advice on diet and exercise, the latter I know I need to do more of.

MTJ is right, well actually no one is ever right. It will vary from person to person.
Now I have lost a couple of stone since Easter.
Fats – cut out all, except Olive oil. I never fry anything – bake with a little drizzle of Olive oil.
Red meat – I have cut it out completely (for the time being).
I eat lots of fish, almost every day. The days I don’t, I have Chicken breast or skip meat all together and have a huge medley of vegetables. I eat tomatoes all the time with everything (I grow my own). Fill yourself up with low calorie vegetables, whilst they are cheap and in season. I do a two mile walk at 7:30am every day (if dry) and try to do it again later that day (if not too hot).
No naughty cakes at all. :)
    Good luck.

Oh yes, I forgot, no beer or spirits……..but lots of fruity Red Wine. (good for you) :)

      Thanks also :-)

I do most of what you say. I know it is the snacking due to irregular meals and a little comforting eating which stopping me from sorting myself out.

More exercise I know I need to do that, I just need more encouragement on that one.

Despite my posting pictures of them, I rarely do naughty cakes and I am thinking maybe a little less wine even the red (with meals) may help ;-)

1- You need 1000 to 1200 calories a day. Keep a diary of EVEYTHING you put in your mouth (very important).
2- Exercise is ABSOLUTELY necessary. At least 1/2 hour (or 3/4) a day.

A walk, (or jogging) is lovely. But it involves weather, time to dress, a decent hour to be out…
Get a treadmill. Use it EVERYDAY (even in the middle of the night!) for the rest of your life. Wrapped in a towel, I listened to the Nine Symphonies of Beethoven with von Karajan, then Leonard Berstein, then all the Bach I could find etc.etc.etc. You won’t even realise that you’re walking 2-3 mph. for a full hour. And you’ll find it hard to get off the treadmill.

    Again:
    1- Keep a diary (1000 to 1200 calories)
2- Exercise on a treadmill (with music)
    3- Tell your friends.

    Good luck, Cherie.:-)

      Thanks Claudia :-)

I do number one and three and writing about it here means even more people know about it.

Number 2 is an area I know I have to work on…

I will keep you posted :-)

You’ll be a beanpole if you lose too much more. :)

Since I had an op on my foot last October (a chunk cut out of a deformed metatarsal) I have gained about 9lbs.
I’d like to keep you company in your efforts, I think it would do me the world of good :-)
I started with a 5km run this morning.
My weakness is wine and savoury snacks – nuts, crisps etc.
    Good luck to us both!

    • CherryPie says:

      The op sounds painful!

Thank you for joining me it always helps to have moral support. As you said good luck to us :-)

It seems we have the same weaknesses ;-)

  8. Well good luck, and keep us posted of the progress.

    Good luck, cherrypie!

Just read MTG’s comment “Just cut out all fats including butter, margarine and fried meals. No processed foods, cheese, sugar, biscuits, chocolate, white bread, pies, cakes, ice cream, beer, spirits or milk (except skimmed).”

Reading that list just depressed me!

Stick at it; you know it’s worthwhile.
