Prvomajski trg

The Prvomajski trg is a short distance away from Tartini Square. On closer inspection, the statues in the square reveal a practical purpose:

Prvomajski trg, has an elaborate Baroque fountain. Built in 1776 on top of the town’s balustraded cistern, the fountain is fronted by an imposing pair of statues symbolizing Law and Justice. A stone cherub holding an amphora stands on one corner of the balustrade. The guttering of a nearby house is fed into pipes that point down towards the cherub, so the rainwater from the gutter gushes out of the amphora.*

If one couldn’t see the Roman influence in Piran before, they definitely can in these statues – beautiful.

I’m digging the guy in the red shirt, btw – I love the muted colors of Piran thus far, but just a dash of unexpected red to brightly say “hello”, now and then, never hurt anyone :)

PS I got you some apple cider donuts today. (In other words, please save me from myself in eating them all, in all their apple-cinnamon-sugar deliciousness). I’ll toss you one – “go long”, as we say when a long pass is made in American football ;)

The Slovenians are quite definite in explaining that this area is Venetian rather than Italian. The history of the area is fascinating :-)

As to the doughnut I will be passing it on, I have a weight loss promise tho Keep…

      ;-)
