…tricking Mr C into a short walk
On Saturday afternoon we visited Buildwas Abbey which turned out be more brief than we had intended. Parts are inaccessible at the moment due to renovations and barriers closing off areas due to Covid-19. Just after we arrived a photographer turned up and whilst taking our own photographs we were careful to try and keep out of the shots that he was framing.
After our visit we drove to Much Wenlock with intention of visiting Wenlock Priory if it was open. It was but the car park look busier than we were comfortable with so we continued on our journey passing through Broseley and ending up at Maws Craft Centre. Only a few of the outlets were open so I suggested we explore a pathway that I had noticed as we arrived. Mr C chose a different path that went in the direction of the river and I kept on walking a little bit further. Up and over the Jackfield and Coalport memorial bridge and along the canal past Coalport China Works.
As we walked along the canal we spotted a photographer with his camera on tripod lining up a shot. It was the same man we had seen at Buildwas Abbey. As we approached he did a double take and I quipped, ‘we are not following you’ before engaging in a brief conversation.
My next plan is to persuade Mr C to walk the T50 50 Mile trail with me (in stages). He hasn’t said no…
It was right and proper that the plates were placed in the gardens, to honour the memory of those young lives destroyed in the Great War and WW2. But it is endlessly sad that we are still killing soldiers, civilians and demonstators. Humanity has learned very little.
Unfortunately we as a human race never learn from our previous mistakes.
The last seven photos reminded me of a fine walk in Dorchester. Interesting.
Tell me about the walk in Dorchester
What a varied set of pictures from just one day. You must have been so pleased with all the photo opportunities
It was a lot of fun. I didn’t realise how close together the gallery and the museum were.
Buildwas Abbey is on my list of places to visit
It looks lovely. Great photos and one day I will return to Ironbridge and Broseley
You need to wait until the restrictions are lifted to enjoy Buildwas at its best
places you have around to visit are magnificently gorgeous dear Cheri
thank you for tranquil nature you shared with us and soothing beauty of your area
each shot is stunning ,i loved this small bridge too and loved most the reflections
It was a lovely unexpected walk, it made my day
I love that area. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been to Buildwas Abbey. I’ve always found the car park by Wenlock Priory busy, I think it’s better to park in St Mary’s Lane car park and walk over to the Priory from there.
I haven’t been to Wenlock Abbey for a while. It is on my list to visit soon
You find such wonderful places.
I am going to explore this area further. I can park in the museum carpark and walk in different directions from there. There is such a lot of history in my local area.
