This window is dedicated to Bishop Hacket, who spent energy and money restoring the Cathedral after damage caused during the Civil War. It shows the ruined Cathedral in the process of repair.*
*Information from a Church leaflet “A walk through Lichfield Cathedral”
The Civil War damage and repairs were monumental events in life then. The Hacket Window is one of the few windows I have seen that memorialises that era. Thank you, Bishop.
It is one of the Cathedral’s treasures.
Is it the one near Birmingham?
I have been to Lichfield!
It is near to Birmingham. There are some connectiions with relics a further ideas that connect it to other Cathedrals in the wider area.
a fine shot of this glasswork, CP. i like the predominantly blue shades – normally i recall more shades of reds, yellows and similar.
Our windows have a lot of blue. But some windows are deliberately different.
Gosh, looking at that lawn makes me want to run all around it.
