Utopia lies at the horizon. When I draw nearer by two steps, it retreats two steps. If I proceed ten steps forward, it swiftly slips ten steps ahead.
No matter how far I go, I can never reach it. What, then, is the purpose of utopia? It is to cause us to advance.
Eduardi Gughes Galeano
Surprise, surprise. Eduardo Galeano is one of my favourite authors.
I am glad my quote chimed with you
hopefully, along these steps, we also begin to under the reason behind this progress, and not just chasing utopia for the sake of it, CP.
I think we are supposed to learn from our journey.
One of those quotes you have to think about, Cherry! Kinda like “tomorrow,” which never comes but is almost always something we look forward to.
Yes, but hopefully we can one day.
Utopia means, literally, “no place.” In that regard maybe it is more wise to stay in the “now” and be happy and content, but nothing is wrong with wishing for a “better world”…
Or maybe trying to change and advance towards a better world?
I like to start the week with your “Thought for the Week”, Cherie. Always something to chew on
I need to get back to posting my ‘Thought for the Week ‘ more regularly than I have done in 2023.
What a lovely quote – I hadn’t heard of the author but am very interested in South American authors at the moment. I’m reading Perla by Carolina de Robertis.
I am currently reading Chronicles of a Cairo Bookseller by Nadia Wassef. A book club read.
awe this is such an amazing quote !!!!!!!
nothing else can be more true dear Cheri
no end ,no destination just journey a continuous one leading no where only to make us evolve
health ,peace and joy to both of you my friend!
A continous journey and continuous improvement of ‘The Self’.
That is an excellent thought of the week. Thank you.
I am glad you enjoyed it
I never knew that dancing cha cha could be so utopian!
But now I know.
I have never danced the Cha Cha
And it’s never too late to learn.
LOL
i like your Thought for the Week Cherie… Utopia is a wish for something better now… perhaps world peace…. after reading some of the comments it makes sense to me….peter:)
We should all aspire to World Peace.
