It is commonly thought that the King’s State Bedroom commemorates the occasion James I stayed in Burton Agnes Hall on the way to be crowned in Westminster Abbey. This however is highly unlikely because the Hall was not completed until 1603. The bed is Italian and dates from the seventeenth century and is still hung with some of the original blue damask.

Very grand, but the bed looks like it wouldn’t be easy to get in to and out of!
Those side bits look a little uncomfortable to me.
Not quite grand enough for me. I insist on four posts, fabric in gold and silver hue, and little side trays for me and my queen to rest our chocolate and cream waffles on. (My recent horse-drawn carriage ride may have gone to my head a bit).
The four-posters at Hardwick Hall would probably be more to your liking, although they are not in gold and silver. There you go mentioning waffles again and making me feel hungry!
THat is wonderfully ornate
It is very unusual too.
