When visiting historical buildings it is always worth remembering to look up so you don’t miss some of the best features which can be found on the ceilings. On this occasion however it was a good job that I remembered to look down when I sat on that bench on the right hand side of the first picture. The beastie in the second picture was making a beeline for my feet!!

Gosh! You were lucky to see that.
That, from here, looks very much like a female Stag Beetle.
I get them some years in the garden – and if I’m lucky I may get the male beetle with those beautiful ’stags horns’. :)
The poor female lacks those magnificent horns. :(
The males are twice the size of the lady beetle and when these menfolk take to the air in search of a lovely lady, it is a sight never to be forgotten. :o
Of course I never have my camera to hand. :(

Thanks :-) I was hoping someone would be able to identify the beetle for me. She was quite large enough and I moved to one side so I wasn’t in the way of where she was trying to go.

I am just pleased my camera managed to capture a half decent photo :-)

  2. And in this case a joy to look down. It is a magnificent beetle
