It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer. You need less imagination to be a painter because you can invent things. But in photography everything is so ordinary; it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary.

I just love the quote. It’s so very true!

  2. Bernard says:

    Yes! So true……..maybe.
As I said earlier, nature puts those things into your photos that you would rather leave out. (Thank heavens for cropping. ) :)
Now, as a (non professional) painter, I agree about ‘imagination’ but I can assure you it requires, and I stand to be corrected, :) , a wee bit more skill or talent to be successful at painting.

I think a successful painter and a successful photographer have the same unique skills in their field. The photographer knows how to get that perfect out of the ordinary photo and the painter uses his imagination to get the perfect picture.

From my point of view, they are different skills and both equally valid.

I’m with Bernard on this one regarding skill.

Digital enhancement and cropping gives opportunities not available to those who lived in the analogue age.

    • CherryPie says:

In the analogue age there was the dark room and the same cropping, tweaking and enhancement took place there. It was not at the press of a few buttons on the PC, but the same things took place…

  4. It is so true. The secret is to try and look at the world in a slightly different way

Great quote, Cherie…and image, too. Are you telling us you can hardly wait for Spring? :)

    It also takes some skill.
