Thanks Liz Whilst I was sitting on that settee one of the other guests came and sat beside me and got chatting about all sorts of intersting stuff. He produced a book he had purchased that day about Cathedral architecture. He then passed it to me to look at

Although the patterns of light are what I’d expect from a lamp shade, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it in a photo before … very original. The comparison with the candle is good and the contrasting colours are amazing.
I was trying to capture the lighting without using flash. It was a hand held shot and I was surprised it came out quite so well.
A well composed and artistic shot! I love it. The balance between light and shade is excellent and the shadows create such interesting patterns. Fantastic!
I had quite a lot of fun trying to get this shot. I don’t know what the other people in the hotel reception area though though
