Synopsis (from book cover):
The story of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some clues about the book on the jacket, but in this case we think that would spoil the reading of the book. We think it is important that you start to read without knowing what it is about.
If you do start to read this book, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy called Bruno. (Though this isn’t a book for nine-year-olds.) And sooner or later you will arrive with Bruno at a fence.
Fences like this exist all over the world. We hope you never have to encounter such a fence.
Review:
Most people will already know about the book or the film but this book is best read without any prior knowledge of the content. The story is told through the eyes of the main character, Bruno a child aged nine. The innocence logical thoughts of a child stand out in comparison to the behaviours of adults.
A book that leaves you thinking and wondering why…
You’ve piqued my interest so I shall look for it at the library when I go tomorrow. Thank you.
I hope you manage to get hold of a copy.
I would not have read it were it not for this post.
I read it when it first came out and was inspired to re-read it recently.
I too read it when it was first published Cherie, stupidly I loaned it to a fellow holiday maker, she took my address and promised to return it…. needless to say, she didn’t . I found it so moving and disturbing I wouldn’t like to read it again, good book though, It certainly provoked thought,

I read it when it first came out too. I felt compelled to read it again after my visit to the Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen.
