The church was inspired by the Byzantine tradition and built on the plan of a Greek cross, surmounted by a light-blue coloured dome and four smaller domes in the corners. The exterior is decorated with mosaics, alternated with marble and coloured stone.
The interior is characterized by frescoes and precious paintings, together with a solid wood iconostasis that separates the presbytery and is the keeper of very valuable icons.
The Church contains a silver candelabra donated by the future Tsar, Paul I, during a visit to Trieste in 1772.

That is a gorgeous church-more like a cathedral. The art work is so intricate and fantastic! Do they let you use flash in there? I would have thought not…. I have a secret passion for churches(as you know).
Did you go to the Sistine Chapel, Cherie?
I don’t know if flash was allowed or not. I never use flash within a church, mostly because I think it is disrespectful but also because using flash does not give a proper representation of the church. All my church photos are also hand held, even in low light.
Our holiday was in Slovenia, Trieste is just a few miles away across the border and we didn’t venture any further into Italy.
How are you able to get such clear shot without a flash? Amazing!
I believe it is a gift that has been graced through me
This is beautiful and I notice those long candles in the middle, what an amazing sight.
The artwork is outstanding. I know you will have a cracked neck after visiting such a place. Wonderful.
It is a place you would be ’short for eyes’ I was quite blown away with it
So much to look up for, Cherie. It must be very uplifiting to worship in a building like this
I have never attended an Orthodox service so I can’t begin to imagine what it would be like.
And yes there is a lot to look up to in that church
Oh, this is just exquisite. I love the Byzantine influence and my first visit to Serbia made me read up more about it. This church is quite lovely. One of the loveliest I’ve seen.
It is stunning and my photos don’t do it justice. There is a beautiful dome, but unfortunately my photograph of that didn’t work.
CoE should gild their churches like this.
We all like a bit of bling bling these days.
It isn’t about the Bling, one has to look beyond that
That is some altar. One gets used to UK Cathedral variations albeit the good and the great but it takes something special like this European example to grab the attention further.
The church was quite breathtaking
