The most haunted public house in the City of York?
The Golden Fleece was mentioned in the York City Archives as far back as 1503.[1] The back yard of the inn is named “Lady Peckett’s Yard” after Alice Peckett, the wife of John Peckett who owned the premises as well as being Lord Mayor of York around 1702.[2]
The inn was rebuilt in the 19th century. In 1983, it was designated as a grade II listed building by English Heritage.[3]
The inn claims to be the most haunted public house in the City of York.[4] It was featured in Most Haunted, a television series about supposedly paranormal phenomena.[5]
It’s a gorgeous pub.
Why did it have to be rebuilt in the 19th century? To rid the building of its haunted history?
I am not able to find more detailed information about the pub. It is quite frustrating.
Ooooh, I’ve seen TV shows and ghost hunts on this place, not just one of the most haunted places in the UK, but supposedly in the world. (I don’t know who determines that, is there like a world ghostie panel or? lol)
So did you go in? Did you see, hear, or feel any ghosties?
Congratulations on completed the walking challenge! I, too, haven’t been as diligent about walking as of late, so thank you for the reminder, hoping to get out today a bit, if weather permits!
I guess I should’ve called it the King Charles III coronation challenge, huh? Can’t do it yet … nothing against him, just still in (willful?) denial, I guess, about the Queen?
Love you!
I have been in more than once. I didn’t feel any vibes in the building and my most recent visit found the place souless.
I have a King Charles Coronation Celebration challenge coming soon. I am happy with these challenges. His late mother our lovely Queen Elizabeth II would be proud of him stepping up to the challenges that being head of state involves.
He will be very different but I am sure he will be a good King.
We have been to Caernarvon castle today. We saw a short clip of his investiture as the Prince of Wales. His mother and father looked so proud of him and he was so young…
I can assure you that Betty’s is also haunted.
Full of hungry cake-eating ghosts.
