The mathematical perfection of the fan vaulting is impressive, even today.
It is amazing
Fan vaulting never ceases to amaze me and those cloisters are such a wonderful example.
Gloucester is a particularly good example, I particularly like the lavatorium corridor.
How come the lavatoria were built so high up from the ground?
Wouldn’t this make washing more difficult for the monks?
It isn’t high up, it just the perfect height for washing.
I think my photo must give a false impression of how it looks.
