Re the bark. Is the bark soft and spongy? I know some trees similar to this have bark so soft and spongy that you can punch it hard and feel no pain. I have always assumed the tree felt no pain either. Hope I’m right.
No the bark was very hard on this tree and think it would have been painful to punch.
