Just below the dam of the top pool at Daniels Mill you can see the ruin of an older mill. It was used until the mid 19th century and was known locally as ‘The Mill in the Hole’.

Really nice surroundings, I love finding different abandoned/old structures in nature. Geocachers often place their caches near such places of interests.
The place where I have just been on my holidays is rife with such structures.
You have really whetted my appetite for this place, Cherry. Maybe one day….

Why was it known as that?
It is probably a corruption of its original name – ‘Donynges’ or ‘Dunnings’ Mill.
You do visit lovely places.
