Celebrating Love

Then Almitra spoke again and said, And what of Marriage, master?

And he answered saying:
You were born together,
and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings
of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the
silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love.

Let it rather be a moving sea between
the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous,
but let each of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone
though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together.
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress
grow not in each other’s shadow.

On Marriage, from The Prophet.
Kahlil Gibran

i consider this amazingly beautiful poetry as a one of the precious gift for valentine day dear friend!!!

love should not be like clay where oxygen doesn’t find way and plant do not grow in such unhealthy mud.
love must be like a sole where each substance in in balance and oxygen finds it’s way to make it’s inner environment perfectly healthy for growth .
    Hugs !

an excellent shot and very meaningful quotation, CP

  3. Amfortas says:

Marriage under God is the joining of Two into One. They are in a Bond. They do drink from the same cup of their Marriage Relationship. They do not have to be ‘alone’ as so encouraged by a poetic but heathen writer. Let us not be seduced by fancy words. Prophet, he ain’t.

    • CherryPie says:

Kahlil Gibran was not a heathen he was a Christian, although he was influenced by other ideas due to his place of birth. He was a poetical writer and an artist.

He was not a prophet but his best known work is called ‘The Prophet’ it is a treatise on life and the human condition.

It is my understanding that the Marriage of Two people under God is a pathway to help each other to find and know God and drink from His cup (and know his Grace). Of course I could be quite wrong in my thinking…

Kahlil Gibran knew what he was talking about, Cherry! Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Hubby for ALL the days of your life.

Ooh nice. I love a bit of bubbly.

    • CherryPie says:

It was very nice bubbly, we left it chilling in a cool corner of the hotel room whilst we went out for the afternoon. When we got back it was chilled to perfection :-)

I sure your love for each other is not just for one day of the year. If buying flowers, I’d wait until l the day after when the prices dropped again :)

    • CherryPie says:

Although not just one day of the year it is always nice to acknowledge the day in some way :-) It doesn’t have to be expensive.

Maybe a card sprinkled with a few confetti hearts (left over from a wedding) placed on a computer keyboard overnight… It is the little unexpected things that make a difference ;-)

  7. Wonderful, CP. I hope you and Mr CP celebrated in style – in fact, I’m sure you did. I have some Kahlil Gibran somewhere; haven’t looked at for years!

    • CherryPie says:

We did celebrate in style although Mr C was under the weather, so it was rather brief. I am sure we will make up for it when he if fully recovered.
