I am really enjoying my volunteering opportunity in Visitor Reception at Attingham Park. I work alongside some lovely people both permanent staff and volunteers.
I am so grateful for this opportunity to fulfil one of the aspirations I held when I took early retirement.
My post volunteering walks are a bonus but… I am already thinking towards autumn and pre volunteering walks.
Never would I park in front of the gates.
Neither would I. But… there are those in that would!
The pastures around Attingham Park are let to tennant farmers. The most local pastures are let to a farmer who lives on the estate. In the spring and summer months his cattle can be seen on the fields near to Attingham House.
This gateway is one of the accesses to the fields of cows
Retirement often means boredom and wasted time. So you are doing exactly the right thing – volunteering for an organisation that is meaningful to you.
It took a while for me to find my volunteering opportunies. Partly due to Covid and partly due to life events.
I am so glad I got there in the end.
Your walks are really beautiful. I love experiencing other people’s walks vicariously! We volunteer too at Junior Parkrun on Sundays – it’s lovely to be part of something and give back
I am glad you enjoy my walks
I agree with you about volunteering, helping others is uplifting.
It is good to read that in giving so much, you are receiving so much back, Cherie. It looks a gorgeous place
I enjoy the parkland and I particularly love the walled garden which I have watched progress since 2008.
Kudos! You are doing such noble work. Perhaps it is the best way to spend one’s time in an active career. I will retire in 11 months’ time. I am looking forward to similar volunteering work after that.
My other volunteering roll is helping children to read in one of my local schools. My two volunteering roles are different but both are rewarding.
I hope you find and opportunity to suit you when you retire
So glad you are enjoying your volunteering and lovely photos of your walk.
Thank you
I suggest your next post volunteering walk to their kitchen.
And remember to steal their secret recipes.
Then share them with us!
I don’t think the National Trust uses secret recipies andy more. It has become more corporate catering over the last few years.
I miss the individuality that each property used to have.
