I thought the pictures I took of the Coldstream Guards at the Tower of London were perfect for this week’s PhotoHunt theme. The first picture shows Tower Green and the other two were taken outside Waterloo Barracks where the crown jewels are housed. The Armchair General tells me the cannons are French six-pounders captured at the Battle of Waterloo and that all French cannons were painted olive green.

You have to laugh at them putting stoppers in the cannons[to redue the danger should anyone be walking by with a cannonball presumably:)]
I did wonder about the stoppers too, I wondered if they thought it looked a bit neater or maybe they were stopping people throwing coins and rubbish down the barrels?
Imagine that bayonet charging towards you!
Lovely photos as always.
I am not too keen on that thought!!!
They are indeed great photos. A blast from the past.
Happy weekend Cherie
Some happy memories for you?
Lovely shots for the theme!!

Great choices for the theme. I must spend an arma nd a leg and visit the Tower again. Happy weekend
It is great value for money if you spend the whole day there
Great pics. I especially love the buildings surrounding Tower Green.
I was taken with the look of Tower Green.
Great photos. Nice take for this week’s theme.

Thank you
Beautiful captures! I especially like the first one and that soldier! he looks like a toy:)
He does from that distance doesn’t he?
Fab Photos Cherie.
I wonder how long the Guardsman has to stand still for?
It really makes one proud to be British when looking at pictures like that…Thanks for sharing.
Have a good weekend,
Di.x
Not for too long he does a little march up and down to keep his circulation going
In the top photo I think those blue painted doors look a bit odd with black and white buildings…
I wonder if there is some sort of tradition that deems they have to be that colour? They do look out of place!
Excellent!!! I love the lone guard best.
One of MY favorite Veterans is on my post this week. Come see him if you have some time.

To guard London when it was a lot smaller
its good to look back of what our heroes have done to defend and liberate us.
Take a look at my HERO
We always have to remember them. It is important!
wonderful interpretation of the theme ! I live in Waterloo, the battle field still belongs to the Wellington family and the Belgian State pays a rent !
Oh! Wow! that is really interesting, thank you for sharing that with me
Great pics. I didn’t know that about the French cannons.
Neither did I until after my visit!
Great shots!
Mine is also from London.

Will be over to check
Great set of pix for the latest theme, Cherie – and I never knew those cannons were French …!
I wouldn’t have know either but some friends of mine are love French military history They can be quite boffy about on occasion though…
Very serene. My eye is caught by the leaves on the grass – how you can almost count them…
They were extremely beautiful on the day
The themes are perfect and so are the photos.
When I took them I thought of this week’s them and saved them on purpose
I feel sorry for these soldiers wearing these outfits and bearskin hats in the summer months. But it is a wonderful sight to behold for British tradition.
I can’t post on your latest post, btw, the comment link doesn’t work.
I suppose a lot of a Soldiers life isn’t easy, but I am sure they are very proud of wearing those dress uniforms.
Thanks for that. I am not sure what went wrong I have reposted now and deleted the original. It seems to work now!
I love these photos. Certainly and great fit for the theme this week. Nicely done blog by the way, since this is my first visit, but I doubt it will be my last.
