These days it looks like the vegetables in the Old Kitchen Garden are not up to the task of supplying food for anyone, it seems like the slugs enjoy them too much.  Maybe that is why they are advertising for a resident hedgehog ;-)

That’s so cute. Do hedgehogs eat slugs then? I always feel sorry for slugs[no one likes them!] In fact, I had a big tiff with my Mum when she bought slug killer pellets[she is so kind to animals normally that I was shocked and disgusted] and threw the box away when she was not looking! :)

I don’t think slugs are the No. 1 fave food of hedgehogs, but they do eat them.

I try to employ non deadly tactics to keep the slugs off my plants!!!

Well, the hedgehogs need somewhere. What about the otters?

Actually, hedgehogs will not stay in the same area. They are sort of wandering nomads. I have had them in my garden for years. They have even had their young here, but they still all wander off even when they are well fed with left-over cat food. The little house is a good idea but only for hibernation over the winter. As a gardener I have to admit to cutting slugs in half with a spade. Sorry, but it seems the quickest way. If I can find them I will dig out those photos of the baby hedgehogs from last year. Cheers….Bernard
