It was suggested that on the first full day in Bruges that we might drive to another town because it was going to be the best day of the weekend weather-wise. I thought that if that was the case it would be ideal to do a walking tour of Bruges rather than sit in the car for long periods of time. A compromise was reached and we ventured out to some sites on the outskirts of Bruges.
The first port of call was to see Sint-Trudoabdij Male (St Trudo Abbey of the Sisters of the Holy Sepulchre) which is a significant site in Bruges. The grounds were quite spectacular with the autumn colours and leaves blowing about.
Do you know – it was exactly this time of the year, that I was last in Bruges.
It was mild, with lots of sunshine and autumn leaves. Glorious!
I can remember the chocolates and lace.
And one other thing.
The horses that pulled those lovely ‘traps’ for the visitors, had small trays under their hind quarters!
To keep the roads clean!
Fancy me remembering things like that! I must have a ‘tidy mind’ ?
Four years ago this weekend was the first time I visited Bruges. I have so many memories from that visit. The autumn leaves are one of them and they colours were so different this time from last time.
We also visited the Menin gate and heard the last post there on the 11th day at the 11th hour and watched the poppies falling from high above.
We re-traced a few of our steps from then to soak up more of the atmosphere

I love autumn. The chill in the crisp air, the swirling leaves and the smell of damp earth makes me come alive like spring never could.
Did you wear your red coat,Cherie? Now that would have made a picture amongst the backdrop of the leaves.
I love autumn too, it is just so vibrant. But I do love spring as well, it lifts me out of those dreary January/February months.

Lovely fall photos of the Low Countries. I never had a car while I was there so I didn’t venture out. It is beautiful.
Last time I visited we stayed pretty much in the centre apart from attending the service at the Menin gate on the 11th of the 11th.
The Autumn colours have been truly wonderful this year
They have, it is to do with the type of summer we have had. Mostly to do with the amount of rain I think.
