It was such a lovely afternoon I decided not to waste it and went for a stroll round the ‘Museum of Steel Sculpture‘ in Ironbridge. I have driven past it quite a few times but never quite made it through the gate. Rather clumsily just after I arrived I missed my footing on some steps and managed to bang my knee right on the corner as I stumbled forwards. Ouch! Luckily at this stage my camera was still in its case.
However I did manage to walk the rest of the way round the park and see the sculptures (approximately 80) which are dotted around the woodlands, with the larger sculptures dominating the grassy areas.
Oh dear, its not good to miss your footing and on some steps to!!! thanks for your visit I will be popping by from time to time to see what you have been doing now this place, well you know that they don’t let dogs in but I made it through the gates, how naughty is that.
Its was back in Nov 2020 I think it was the week before they close for the winter, we didn’t see a soul all the way around!! Mom and Dad were worried that someone might lock us in!

Have a good week
See Yea George xxx
Opps I got the date wrong!!! should read Nov 2010
Hi George,
Thank you for visiting my blog
I am glad you clarified the date, I thought I was stepping into the future for a minute Phew, it was just a typo !!
I didn’t see any signs today that said ‘No Dogs Allowed’. We had a little chat to Pam (who with her late husband created the sculpture park) as we left.
It was a lot of fun, although I wish I hadn’t scuffed my knee
It amuses me Cherie, how they call these places ‘Museums’. I have always, perhaps wrongly, thought of museums of places where to find artefacts from hundreds or thousands of years ago. Although I have no objection to ’sculpture in steel’, and quite like some of it, it is more of a ‘modern art’ gallery me thinks? I must look up the word ’sculpture’ when I’ve got a minute. I’m sure it means ‘carved out of the solid’?
Not the sort of thing an engineer like me would attempt without a jolly powerful milling machine or ‘Angle-grinder’.
As always, I love all your photos and hope the bruise on your knee soon gets better. Take (more) care……Bernard x
I hadn’t thought about the title ‘museum’ until you mentioned it. The place is a modern art gallery and not a museum. The sculptors of these art pieces are definitely engineers.
Thank you for your kind thoughts about my knee. I do take care and from my memory this is only the third time I have fallen in the last 30 years…
First time due to ice on a railway track
Second time to a huge pothole in the road
Third time uneven steps and light = me being clumsy?…
Perhaps I am getting old?
Yesterday was such a lovely day!
I did a 10-mile walk from Banstead to Kingston along the River Hogsmill.
It was tiring bur really rewarding.
It sounds like great fun, I hope you took some photos
I like that.
I like steel. Interesting chemistry in all the many varieties of steel.
You would have really enjoyed the place if you like steel.
I’m curious about the reddish fruits/flowers (?) mixed with the green leaves on the right . Hope your knee heals well, Cherie.
They are copper coloured leaves.
I have driven past it quite a few times but never quite made it through the gate. Rather clumsily just after I arrived I missed my footing on some steps and managed to bang my knee right on the corner
And that’s why – it was telling you something.
Possibly…
Love the light on this sculpture. I hope your knee is healing alright.
To me, England has more places like this than in Holland.
The light was lovely for displaying the sculptures and giving them particular interest.
My knee is recovering quite nicely and so are a few bruises on my arms that emerged a couple of days later.
