Hotel Garden

The day had finally arrived for my extended family get together in Paris.  The midlands contingent were just leaving for the airport as the southern contingent arrived in Paris via Euro-star.  The journey to the airport, the meet and greet parking service, the flight and the private taxi from airport direct to hotel all ran like clockwork.

We shared our flight with the England Women’s football team who were sat in the rows of seats just in front of ours.  We didn’t land at the main terminal at Charles de Gaulle airport which meant a bit of a trek to get to where our baggage was unloaded.  This gave us the opportunity to chat to the ladies from the England team on the train journey to the main terminus.  We were informed that they were training that evening and that the following day they were having a ‘friendly’ match against France and that the match would be broadcast live on BBC3.

On arrival at the hotel I unpacked my bags and freshened up after the long journey before meeting up with everyone in the hotel reception.  We then set out to find a suitable restaurant for our evening meal.

Very friendly. Better than the men would manage (even against the women)

I miss Paris. Memories… Will I ever see it again, I wonder? Perhaps many times. Perhaps none. I got engaged to a beautiful woman in Paris in 1976. Got a few glasses of wine down her in a pavement cafe in the early afternoon and got the ring on her finger under the table before she’d even realised what was happening. Didn’t exactly ask her. No going back for her after that eh? What a big romantic Don she got :) She sobered up by dinner time and seemed prepared to give it a go until something better came along. I’ll remind her tomorrow morning when she wakes (remind her that she’s beautiful that is, which usually stands me in good stead). Funny thing is that I have since aged at about three times the rate that she appears to have. All her fault, no doubt.

But will I wake up tomorrow morning, I wonder? Possibly not… for I am very tired… I may not wake until the afternoon.

Late night thoughts, be gone. (With apologies for posting my reminisences on your blog).

A draw was very friendly wasn’t it ;-)

No need to apologise for your reminiscences, they made me smile (in a nice way). You are free to reminisce as much as you like here :-)

Perhaps you should take your beautiful lady back there so you can enjoy Paris all over again :-)

      • I have been back myself on business a few times but me and my lady have been back only once, but with our then young teenage kids in tow. It was a very weird feeling walking past our old hotel doorway with two rather large and troublesome children of ours walking along beside us. That’s what happens when a man gets smitten by a beautiful lady eh :)

Maybe we will get back again just the two of us someday.

Ah a perfect place for a family get together. Are you of French descent Cherie? For me Paris is a good place to go.

One of my oldest friends lives in St Germain en laye and an Iranian poet and photographer I know is a doctor not far from Montmartre

No I am not of French descent, but France seems to be a place I visit often. I have been to Paris many times and I plan to go back again next year to do the things that weren’t possible on this occasion. On this occasion we stayed very near to Montmartre.

That’s very much my notion of Paris too. Love it.

One of those serendipities of life, Cherry, that you never forget! :) Did you watch the game later???

What a nice way (and place) place to have a family reunion!

  6. I have to say I actually prefer Nice to Paris. ;o)
Maybe it’s because of the blue sea x
