On the day I chose to visit the Eiffel Tower during my recent weekend in Paris, the tower was partially shrouded in mist. The mist was a bonus, it meant there were no queues and we were able to go up the tower without any delay. As I looked down from the tower along the Champs De Mars I noticed two rows of statues, which I thought were people. I decided to go and investigate when I got down from the tower…
My investigation revealed that they were statues of bears not people and that they were an artwork project.
Lovely, and reminds me of my wish to actually climb the stairs all the way up to the top, if I have the nerve. Have only been all the way up once and took the lift. There is a danger the climb may never happen though, as I don’t expect to return to Paris anytime soon.
I recall your earlier photo with the top hidden in the mist, which was a very special shot too.
You would also need the energy to get all the way to the top. My Mum who has vertigo described her experience walking up the first stage and how she wore my Dad out because there was no way she could pause on those stairs!!
Experiencing the Eiffel Tower in the mist was quite special
Did you think they were real from up there?
My post explains that I saw two rows of statues. Statues don’t normally come to life…
Did you take any pictures of the bears? I remember seeing some in Berlin a few years ago, each painted by a different person in a different style. I wonder if these are similar. Fascinating.
They are the same bears although some of them have been replaced with a different bear over the years.
I do have some photos and they will be coming soon
THe mist does add a certain otherworldly feel
The mist was a wonderful experience
Love the view from the Eiffel tower, I love great heights.
The bear statues were the bonus.
It is a wonderful view, but think my favourite view in Paris (so far) is off the top of the Arch de Triumphe.
Misty Paris looks kinda romantic!
There were some spectacular views
Hi Cherrypie, your photos are fabulous … My friend and I did not walk up the tower , but we did walk ALL THE WAY DOWN … I have super photos from the top too.
Oh yes the Bears are fab, my friend over there took lots of photos of them, and they are all painted in their country colours etc ,,
What sort of camera do you have? I would like to up grade mine soon ,
Hi Anne, thank you
I am impressed that you walked down, it is a long way!! I took the easy way down
I loved those bears, I thought the project was fascinating. I enjoyed the thought of them even more when I realised that several of my blog friends had seen them in other cities over the years
I have a Panasonic Lumix G2, I treated myself a couple of years ago for my Birthday
the mist imparts a different kind of beauty here CP. i like your views from up there. some time, i hope to go up there after dark
It was quite special seeing it like that. Going up it in the dark is on my list of things to do too!
